CALABASAS, CA and GREENBELT, MD, USA March 22, 2006 – Scaleform® Corporation, the leader in hardware-accelerated user interface (UI) and scalable vector graphics engines for games announced today that they plan to integrate the Scaleform GFx™ SDK into Emergent's Gamebryo™ game engine. Combined with Gamebryo, Scaleform GFx will be part of a tightly integrated cross-platform game development solution for PC, PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™), Xbox 360® and beyond. Gamebryo is one of the game industry's most licensed graphics engines, with more than 70 titles currently in development, and has recently been used to create hit games such as Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (a launch title for Xbox 360), Sid Meier's Pirates!, the Dark Age of Camelot series and Freedom Force. With many clients demanding a fully integrated UI solution, Emergent and Scaleform began their collaboration by delivering the 3D and UI technology for Firaxis Games' award-winning release of Sid Meier's Civilization IV. "Scaleform GFx gives us a great response to the needs of our game developers. We are excited to continue delivering successful integrated solutions," said John Austin, Emergent's chief operating officer. "Game developers have been clamoring for a UI solution that would enable artists to create advanced HUDs and animating textures in industry-standard visual tools like Adobe® Flash®. With an integrated package, artists will be able to rapidly extend the signature look of their game into the UI, creating a more compelling and absorbing user experience." Building on the success of Gamebryo, Emergent is developing technologies that will revolutionize the process of building, testing and managing games for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. "We are very enthused with Emergent's breadth of vision and are proud to be a part of their comprehensive tools and middleware strategy," said Brendan Iribe, president and chief executive officer of Scaleform. "Scaleform GFx is a perfect fit with Emergent's vision for highly integrated game development tool kits. The combined solution delivers a seamless artist-oriented rapid development environment that game studios can depend on." The Scaleform GFx SDK is a light-weight, high-performance rich media vector graphics engine for console and PC game developers, combining the scalability and development ease of proven visual authoring tools such as Flash with the latest hardware graphics acceleration that cutting-edge game developers demand. Using Scaleform GFx, companies can change from a programmer-centric static UI development environment to an artist-driven dynamic UI and animated texture production pipeline. The Scaleform GFx rich media platform is built on the Scaleform VGx™ hardware-accelerated vector graphics technology, which tessellates vector graphic shapes into triangles that modern 3D video cards can render. By converting the data into triangles, Scaleform VGx can output vector graphics many times faster than traditional software rasterizers, allowing it to be used within high-performance full-screen multimedia environments.
